Virginia Scottish Games and Festival

Virginia Scottish Games and Festival

Not far from The Black Horse Inn in the small town of Plains, top ranked professionals are scheduled to compete in the Virginia Scottish Games and Festival.

An annual event, the Festival includes games like piping and drumming, highland dancing, fiddling, and sheep herding demonstrations. It’s all to celebrate the many rich traditions of the Scottish heritage, also one of Virginia’s first families.

Scheduled for September 2-3, 2017, there will also be an antique car show, vendors and crafters, clan and society exhibits, and plenty of activities on the main stage.

Festival attendees will also get to sample Scottish food and drink.

Scottish Festival Entertainment

This year’s festival includes a variety of musical acts to enjoy such as the renown alt-celt group, Glengarry Bhoys. A hybrid of Canadian Highland Scots and French Canadian musical idioms, their music crosses all ages and cultures.

Jil Chambless MusicJil Chambers and Scooter Muse, members of Henri’s Notions, will also be playing. Henri’s Notions is the longest performing Celtic band in the southeastern US.

With a beautiful voice to entrance and a fine flute player as well, Jil and Scooter will delight and entertain you.

Other Celtic acts such as Devil’s tailors, OCEAN Celtic Quartet, and Celtic Machinations will also perform.

Besides fine musical performances, the Sterling Swordplayers will bring their own brand of comedy and entertainment to the festival this year. Imagine Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean with a dash of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, and you have the Sterling Swordplayers.
